The Old Bakehouse Millennium Green

Morpeth’s Secret Garden

Events

April - Busy Bee Workshop

In April each year the Green is one of the venues for the Morpeth Gathering, a two-day celebration of traditional Northumbrian dance, music and fun and games.

There is story-telling in the Green and sometimes dancing and in the past the Trustees have run a bird and bat box making workshop for youngsters on the Saturday afternoon.

June - Garden Fete

Our main event of the year is the Garden Fete. This is open to the public and shows off the Green at its best in June. We run a very successful plant stall stocked by Trustees and Friends, a cake stall, a book/CD stall and a tombola. There are games and puzzles for children. Refreshments are laid on. The money raised helps to buy new plants for the Green.

August - Music in the Green

For the first time, in 2013, we held a successful new event Music in the Green. Several local singers and musicians entertained us with a mixture of traditional, pop and folk songs. Over a hundred people filled the Green. It is now firmly established as a biennial event.

Autumn- Poetry Reading

Morpeth Poetry Group began to use the Green for public readings in 2018.

December - Carols in the Green

Each year just before Christmas, children from St Robert’s First School come into the Green at dusk and sing carols and recite poems.
